LMAO.. ok I thought the picture in the paper was horrible -- the picture on the web article is even worse! LOL Oh well, at least I look happy ;-)

The article was on the front page of the Mountain Life section... the WHOLE front page! My picture was the entire half above the fold.. the article was the entire half below the fold... Gail did a great job writing the article. The only thing that she didn't include that I wish she would have was the fact that I feel so very blessed! That I truly feel like I am where I am supposed to be in life -- I feel so blessed!

www.themountainpress.com

Today a reporter and photographer from our local newspaper came to interview me at school about my upcoming trip to Romania. Originally the article was supposed to appear in the Sunday edition -- front page of Mountain Life -- on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. The reporter called back this afternoon and said it may be in tomorrow's edition! I am so excited... although every time the photographer snapped I think I closed my eyes LOL...

I would love for thousands of people to read this article and decide that they too want to make a difference in the lives of Romanian children!

Maybe I should have waited to blog this until after I had read the article! I hope I didn't fumble around too much... I hope the quotes make sense and don't ramble (I remember all those red marks for run-on sentences and 'rambling' comments, Ms. Chambers!) Let me know what you think!

Finally some good news

Ever heard of FuzziBunz?? LOL http://www.fuzzibunz.com/ It is an AWESOME cloth diaper company that is sending me a donation of diapers to take with me to Romania! I am so excited!

The idea to asked for donations of the new and improved cloth diapers came about from conversations with a previous volunteer who stumbled across my blog and sent me an email (Hey Stephanie!). She was asking me to give her an update on a couple of kids she and her mom worked closely with and made a comment about how huge the diapers were on one of the little girls (Alina) at the clinic. I thought, hey I will buy some of those new and improved cloth diapers to take with me for the smaller babies. (The clinic has to pay to dispose of disposable diapers so I was trying to come up with something other than Huggies.) Then I saw how expensive the new and improved cloth diapers are -- yikes! Finally the idea hit to ask for donations and FuzziBunz said yes!

So thank you to Stephanie for contacting me and FuzziBunz for their donation -- I needed some good news after the crap with Delta! :-)

Cum se spune OMG în limba română?

or... how do you say 'oh my gosh' in Romanian??

Last week I picked up an audio tape set for learning Romanian at the local used bookstore (McKay's -- my favorite store in the whole wide world). It was only $6.95 but missing the phrase book. I figured it couldn't hurt and might help -- that maybe I would at least become familiar with hearing the language.

OMG.. tonight was the first night I tried to listen to it... LOL I am truly beginning to doubt my ability to ever learn to speak a second language. I took Latin in high school and college so I wouldn't have to try to "speak" a foreign language. I tell people I can barely speak English LOL I think it has something to do with living in the South. Seriously, I have trouble with phonics -- hard for me to sound words out, I know the meanings of thousands of words but never use them in oral conversation because I have no idea how to pronounce them... weird and off topic.. .

So, we are listening to the phrases and pronunciations and I'm seriously not sure whether to laugh or cry! After about 25 minutes Emily asked if we could stop because it was seriously making her head hurt. LOL We stopped.. I am going to have to see the words in print and hear them at the same time if I ever hope to learn anything...

First thing I did when I got home tonight -- located the used phrase book that should have been in the set and bought 2 other phrase books at Amazon! LOL Wish me luck!

NEVER FLY DELTA

Okay, update on the travel plans... I emailed Janice my travel requirements (must be in Bucharest before 3:30pm on December 27 and should not fly out of Bucharest until after 2:30pm on January 17 this is due to catching the train that takes the volunteers from Bucharest to Barlad a 4 1/2 - 5 hour train that leaves once a day!)... she sent me back an email with flights that met these requirements.. I said something along the lines of "Woo-hoo! Book those tickets!"
Well, when she called Delta to confirm the tickets she was told that it would be IMPOSSIBLE for me to make my flight out of Paris because there was only a 45 minute "lay over" & it takes at least 1 1/2 hours to change planes in Paris. Delta changed the ticket to meet THEIR requirements and I was set to arrive at 4:15pm... Ummm, no, not gonna work!

Complaint # 1 --- when you go to Delta's website and search for tickets it STILL gives you the original flight option with the 45 minutes layover... why does it show you can buy this ticket if it is IMPOSSIBLE?!?!?

Complaint #2 --- when I called Delta to attempt to change the ticket the first time I could barely understand the customer service booking agent with whom I spoke... I had to ask her to repeat herself 3 times to realize she was asking me for my confirmation number... This after being on hold for 20 minutes at 9am on a Saturday morning!

Complaint #3 --- when I called Delta back again after searching for flights that would meet GV's flight requirements (I had 3 different flight numbers that WOULD work that were being offered on Delta's website) I was told that instead of the 100,000 skymiles that were used to purchase the flight they had picked the flights I had picked would range anywhere from 117,000 skymiles to over 200,000 skymiles -- Hello?! These flights were all leaving on the same day from the same airports going the same places! -- I was not about to ask Janice for more skymiles so...

Complaint #4 --- I asked if I could change the ticket and pay the difference in cash -- again I was told NO! UGH!!! I really dislike this airline! I could buy more skymiles at 3 cents apiece which would bring the total spent for the ticket up to about $1000.. so much for a "free" ticket...

In the end we just had Janice cancel the flight and I will be buying a new ticket NOT WITH DELTA on payday...

Everyone say it with me now, "NEVER FLY WITH DELTA!" They have to be the most unreasonable company to work with in the airline industry... the only other option they offered was for me to leave on December 24 -- apparently spending Christmas with my own child shouldn't be important...
