Weekend Trip-Painted Monasteries

On Saturday morning we met Radu, our tour guide, in the lobby of our hotel for a trip to see the Painted Monasteries... We visited 3 different monasteries: Humor, Voronet, and Sucevita. It was about a 3 hour ride from Iasi to the first monastery Humor. Humor was the oldest of the 3 and therefore the most primitive. Voronet is known as the "Sistine Chapel of the East." Sucevita had a beautiful painting on one wall of the ladder of virtues... and one wall was blank -- because the brothers who were painting the walls FELL OFF A LADDER AND DIED!! Yikes...makes you wonder what they had done wrong! I took millions of pictures and can't really decide what to post to the blog...

Our guide, Radu, was a cutie! He was also very informative. He knew so much about the monasteries and the Orthodox religion that it was truly amazing. Other groups of people who spoke English stopped to listen to his talk about the paintings.

In the van on the way and back we discovered that Romanians apparently love Katie Perry (I Kissed a Girl & Hot 'n Cold)... we heard her songs no less than 20 times! LOL

Radu taught Kim how to say "Give me your tear, Gypsy" in Romanian (quote from the movie Borat).

It was colder than poop outside! About -10 degrees Celsius.. 14 degrees Fahrenheit! Yikes.. cold to be outside looking at the churches!! :-)

Pictures to follow...

I miss you a lot and I hope you come back soon. I hope you are having fun with the babies. I feel sad for them since they don't have Mommies and Daddies. I miss you. Love, Sean Jolley

Katy Perry!!! That's so funny. I can't believe they are listening to that in Romania! Can't wait to see your newest pictures and hear what's going on today. Praying for you and those sweeties.
